Virtually Prepared

…leaving your physical world virtually behind

Amongst the myriad of ‘free’ virtualisation offerings (‘free’ until you need the management tools) I couldn’t help but notice Citrix have released their beta of a free P2V tool for XenServer (it imports VMDK files amongst other things). With VMware and Citrix no longer being the best of friends do we have a virtualisation silent assassin in our midst? Organisations already bought into the Citrix infrastructure can easily justify the investigation into another Citrix product whereas it’s harder to kick a small piece of work off to review ‘another vendor offering’. I’m not thinking about the big global companies but the SMBs who want to get on board with the Type 2 hypervisor. Just a thought.
