Age old Apple users bought into the idea their files could be stored away from their machine a long time ago (.Mac) and were the pioneers, even though at the time we as an IT community didn’t really have a widely accepted / notable classification for this “new” technology.
The recently released iDisk iPhone application opens part of the cloud computing initiative to a new unsuspecting audience. Data stored elsewhere is now available to a supporting handset near you…
Suddenly the estimated 20 million+ iPhone handsets are able to access data in the “cloud”.
I think we should call this Patch work Cirrocumulus mobile cloud the ‘Cloud-i-Phone’.
Leaving VMware related items aside for today I took my iPhone 3G and installed the Beta 2 of the 3.0 OS. Everything worked fine apart from the Cellular Data Access, this stopped with an error “Could not activate cellular data network : You are not subscribed to a cellular data service”.
Hmmm.
Everything was fine before. After reading a vast amount of forum posts from various opinionated individuals claiming it
was bug I thought it best to own up and ring O2. It transpires the default APN of mobile.o2.co.uk is for contract customers and should be replaced with payandgo.o2.co.uk, ah-ha. So be aware PAYG customers, the default settings are for contract customers.
Phew.
